When: (Aug. 30-Sept. 1; Labor Day weekend)
Where: Seattle, WA
Why: Bumbershoot, which takes its name from a colloquial synonym for umbrella, is an international music and arts festival held every Labor Day weekend in Seattle, Washington has you covered with music from world-class artists and those hailing from the Great Northleft.
Beginning in 1971, the long-running festival takes place both indoors and outdoors at the downtown Seattle Center (built for the 1962 World’s Fair) and attracts performing acts from across the world, yet the festival is best known for showcasing artists from the Pacific Northwest. This year’s fest showcases an eclectic lineup of artists, tabbing headliners from the rock, rap and jazz genres in addition to a worthy crop of international musicians and a slew of standup to satisfy your comedy cravings. Add a family-centric festival-within-a-festival (aptly named ‘Youngershoot’) and everyone is covered. Bring your sunscreen, your camera, and an umbrella – remember, it IS Seattle – and forget about work for a few days.
5 Headliners: Foster The People, Elvis Costello & The Imposters, Wu-Tang Clan, The Head and the Heart, Neon Trees
5 Can’t Miss: Danny Brown, Capital Cities, Real Estate, The Lonely Forest, Bomba Estéreo
