Overcoming personal loss, numerous setbacks and physical obstacles are at the forefront of Meru, the powerful new mountain climbing documentary from Music Box Films.
Featuring mountaineer Conrad Anker, climber/photographer Jimmy Chin (also the film’s director), and artist/climber Renan Ozturk (serving as cinematographer), the film focuses on the obstacles surrounding the group’s attempts of climbing the Shark’s Fin, a harrowing 1,500-foot granite face on Mount Meru in India’s Garwhal Himalayas, standing at 21,000 feet and previously unclimbed. The story follows each climber’s path to Meru – threading their climbing and personal lives – then together as a group determined to conquer the summit.
Meru captured the Audience Award at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and is slated for theatrical release on August 14. See the film’s website for more feature dates.
